Thaipoosa Mahothsavam (January – February)

Thaipoosa Mahothsavam is celebrated as a 6-day festival. On all the six days, special Abhishekams are performed. Lord Muruga is adorned with Vaira Abaranangal. In the evenings, cultural programmes (Music concerts, spiritual discourses) are organised. On Thaipoosam day, a large number of devotees carry Kavadis filled with Honey, Milk, Vibhuthi (sacred Ash) and Palkudams filled with Milk, Devotees accompanied by Nadaswaram go in procession around the streets of Chhedanagar and finally offer the milk and other items for Abhishekam to the Lord.

Hundreds of devotees are given Anndhanam in the spacious Halls in the Temple Complex, In the evening the Lord with His consorts is taken in procession around Chhedanagar accompanied by Nadaswaram, Bhajan and Veda Parayanam.

Panguni Uthira Brahmothsavam (March – April)

To coincide with Panguni Uthiram, Brahmothsavam is celebrated for 10 days, Yaga Shala is set up within the temple premises and rituals (Homams) are performed daily by learned Sivacharyas, who are specially invited from Tamil Nadu On the 1st day, there is flag hoisting at the Temple and yaga Shala is set up.

On all the 10 days, Lord Muruga with Sri Valli and Sri Devasena is taken in procession in different Vahanas both in the morning and evening. On special days (1st, 4th, 5th, 10th day) the procession in the evenings is taken through the four streets of Chhedanagar, accompanied by Bhajans, Veda Parayanam and Nadaswaram.

9th day of the festival is very important – “Car Festival”. Lord Muruga with His consorts is decorated in the Wooden Chariot and taken in procession in the morning around the streets of Chhedanagar. Hundreds of devotees participate in this sacred event. On Panguni Utiram Day, the Lord is taken for “TheertHa Vari (Dip in Holy Water) as a symbol of purification in the morning and the Lord is taken to the sanctum. A large number of devotees carry Kavadis filled with Honey, Milk, Vibhuthi (sacred Ash) and Palkudams filled with Milk, Devotees accompanied by Nadaswaram go in procession around the streets of Chhedanagar and finally offer the milk and other items for Abhishekam to the Lord.

Vaikasi Visaka Mahothsavam (May –June)

Vaikasi Visaka Mahothsavam is celebrated as a 6-day festival. On all the six days, special Abhishekams are performed. Lord Muruga is adorned with Vaira Abaranangal.

Purattasi – Kanya (September - October)

Goddess Durga Devi

Navarathri – Nava Chandi Homam

During Navarathri, on all the nine days,”Nava Chandi Homam” is performed. The significance of Nava Chandi Homam in our temple is that every day “Kalasa Sthapanam”, “Navarna Pooja”, “Kanya”, “Suhasini” and “Vadu” Poojas are performed. After Maha Deeparadhana, The Kalasams are taken in procession and Abhishekam is performed to Goddess Durga on the same day. Next day, Kalasa sthapanam, Navavarna Pooja, Navagraha Kalasa Pooja are performed afresh.

Learned Sivacharyas from various Temples in South India participate in the rituals.

Lord Muruga

Shanmukharchana

During Navaratri, Shanmukharchana to Lord Muruga is performed for all the nine days. 6 Sivacharyas perform the Archanas for the six faces of Lord Muruga.

Vijayadasami Day

Ekadina Laksharchana for Goddess Durga is performed.

Vidyarambham, admission for students to Veda, Music, Mrudangam, Ghatam, Konnakol, Bharata Natyam, Mohin Aattom and Odissi classes

The deity is taken in Procession around Chhedanagar accompanied by Nadaswaram, Veda Parayanam and Bhajan

Skanda Sashti Mahothsavam (October – November)

Skanda Sashti Mahothsavam is celebrated as a 6-day festival. On all the six days, special Abhishekams are performed. Lord Muruga is adorned with Vaira Abaranangal. In the evenings, cultural programmes (Music concerts, spiritual discourses) are organised. On Thaipoosam day, a large number of devotees carry Kavadis filled with Honey, Milk, Vibhuthi (sacred Ash) and Palkudams filled with Milk, Devotees accompanied by Nadaswaram go in procession around the streets of Chhedanagar and finally offer the milk and other items for Abhishekam to the Lord. Hundreds of devotees are given Anndhanam in the spacious Halls in the Temple Complex.

Similar to Thiruchendur in South India, Soora Samharam is performed in our Tempe as well. After receiving the blessings and the VEL from Goddess Durga, Lord Muruga is taken in procession in the four streets encircling the temple. Thousands of devotees witness the occasion with religious fervor and enthusiasm. Parihara Abhishekams to the Lord and the Vel are performed after the Samharam.

Next day, Thiru Kalyan Utsavam of Lord Muruga marrying His consort Devasena is performed. In the evening the Lord with His consorts is taken in procession around Chhedanagar accompanied by Nadaswaram, Bhajan and Veda Parayanam.
